Pueblo Viejo is a town in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Pueblo Viejo is the central place of the canton Pueblo Viejo in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Mojinete in the province of Sur Lípez . The village is located at an altitude of 3700 m on a left tributary to the Río Mojinete, a left tributary of the Río San Juan del Oro , which is one of the headwaters of the Río Pilcomayo .

Pueblo Viejo is located on the Bolivian Altiplano in one of the southern side valleys of the Cordillera de Lípez mountain range near the Argentine border. The region's climate is typical of the time of day , with the mean temperature fluctuation during the day being more pronounced than during the course of the seasons.
The annual average temperature of the region is just under 8 ° C (see Mojinete climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate only slightly between just under 3 ° C in June / July and 11 ° C from December to February. From Potosí the trunk road Ruta 5 leads in a southwest direction 208 kilometers via Ticatica to Uyuni , from there the Ruta 21 to the southeast 96 kilometers to Atocha and another 100 kilometers to Tupiza . About 25 kilometers behind Atocha, a dirt road branches off to the southwest at Escoriani and leads 40 kilometers to San Vicente and another 80 kilometers to the provincial capital San Pablo de Lípez . From there a road connection leads first to Guadalupe, 28 kilometers away, and from there further west for another 50 kilometers to Mojinete . From here it is another 30 kilometers to the village of Pueblo Viejo .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Mojinete 94.5 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
