Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

BW

The local cemetery has a plaque commemorating the deaths of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1908 in San Vicente. Allegedly, the two US bandits were buried in the local cemetery after they had robbed a money transport near Tupiza and stopped in San Vicente with their loot. In 1992 the bones of the "US desperados" were exhumed at the specified location, but the subsequent DNA test showed that the recovered remains were a German engineer named Gustav Zimmer, a contemporary of the two bandits. The nameless grave is still a destination for foreign tourists, without the town being able to capitalize on it.
