Britney: For The Record is the title of a 2008 documentary by the American pop singer Britney Spears , which is about Spears' way back into the public eye after struggling with some personal problems in previous years. The film was shot in Los Angeles and New York , among others . Filming began on September 5, 2008, two days before the MTV Video Music Awards opened by Spears. The film was directed by Phil Griffin . The first trailer was released in October 2008.

Britney: For the Record premiered on MTV on November 30, 2008 , two days prior to the release of Spears' sixth studio album, Circus , which was promoted by the documentary. Although the film achieved high ratings and was positively received by fans, critics mainly gave average ratings.

background

After Spears' guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother in 2008, The National Enquirer reported that Larry Rudolph, who was back as a manager for Spears, was planning a documentary about her life and comeback . According to media reports, the documentary should revolve around Spears' way back into the limelight after completely eluding the public after her collapse. The production company FremantleMedia published a press release on October 9, 2008. That same evening, MTV reported that the documentary would premiere on November 30th.

After Spears was confronted with enormous criticism of her way of life in previous years, it was her desire for clarification and the description of her view of things that ultimately led to the concept and the making of the film. Spears is unusually open about her past relationships with Justin Timberlake & ex-husband Kevin Federline. For the first time, she also takes a position on her criticized appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards 2007 and talks about the continued guardianship of her father James Spears. Furthermore, the film also shows Britney Spears as a private person, as there are some emotional scenes, as well as an insight into Spears as the mother of two sons.

Filming

Spears teamed up with the American music broadcaster MTV and the award-winning production company Radical Media for the shooting . Filming for For The Record began on September 5th and lasted until mid-November 2008. The production team used various recordings of Spears for the film, including from her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards 2008 appearance. Spears will also be accompanied by the Shooting of the music videos for Womanizer and Circus , as well as a press tour to New York. Spears' interview sequences were filmed at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles. The singer Madonna has a cameo and also speaks up. She invited Spears to a concert on her Sticky & Sweet tour in Los Angeles.

Publication and promotion

To better promote the documentary, some previously unpublished pictures and videos of the shooting were shown on the official website Britney.com . MTV produced a few short commercials and pre-released excerpts from For The Record . Spears himself was present at the first broadcast, the tickets for the live broadcast were raffled off.
