Guadalupe is a town in the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Guadalupe is the central place of the canton of Guadalupe in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) San Antonio de Esmoruco in the province of Sur Lípez . The place is 35 kilometers north of the border with Argentina at an altitude of 4172 m on a left tributary of the Río San Juan del Oro .
geography
Guadalupe is located on the Bolivian Altiplano in the Cordillera de Lípez mountain range in the southern part of Bolivia. The village is characterized by an arid mountain climate, the rainfall is not sufficient in any month for the cultivation of useful plants.
The mean annual temperature of the region is just under 6 ° C (see climate diagram San Antonio de Lípez), the annual precipitation is only about 200 mm. The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 1 ° C in July and 8 ° C from November to March. The monthly precipitation is between less than 10 mm from May to October and 30–50 mm from December to March.

Guadalupe is 480 kilometers by road south of Potosí , the capital of the department.
From Potosí the trunk road Ruta 5 leads in a southwest direction 208 kilometers via Ticatica to Uyuni , from there the Ruta 21 to the southeast 96 kilometers to Atocha and another 100 kilometers to Tupiza . About 25 kilometers behind Atocha, a dirt road branches off to the southwest at Escoriani and leads 40 kilometers to San Vicente and on to the provincial capital San Pablo de Lípez . Guadalupe is then halfway between San Pablo, 28 kilometers away, and San Antonio de Esmoruco, 21 kilometers further south .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the province of Sur Lípez 88 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
