Pulpit in Ars-en-Ré

The pulpit in the church of St-Étienne in Ars-en-Ré , a French commune in the Charente-Maritime department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was created in 1614. The pulpit of walnut wood is as since 1938 Monument historique classified.

The pulpit is 4.33 meters high and has a staircase with a baluster . The hexagonal pulpit is decorated with reliefs of the apostles Peter , Paul and John as well as Jesus on the cross and St. Francis of Assisi . A dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit is attached to the underside of the sound cover . The sound cover is crowned by a cross .

The base of the pulpit is carved in the shape of a bearded man.
