The Cape Russell is a rocky headland in the Terra Nova Bay on the Scott Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is the southern end of the Föhn peninsula , which in turn forms the southern branch of the Northern Foothills .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cape in 1968 after Commander RE Russell of the United States Navy , who was responsible for the helicopter squadron aboard the icebreaker USS Glacier as part of Operation Deep Freeze from 1958 to 1959.
