Kapiro is a small settlement in the Far North District of the Northland regionon the North Island of New Zealand .

geography

The settlement is located about 6 km northwest of Kerikeri directly on New Zealand State Highway 10 . The Kapiro Stream flows through Kapiro and flows into the Rangitane River east of the settlement . Lake Manuwai is 4 km west of the settlement .

population

The New Zealand Office Statistics New Zealand has a population for 2013 of 2685 inhabitants under the local term Kapiro . However, the area under which the statistical data were summarized extends in north-south direction over a maximum of 18 km and in east-west direction over around 28 km and has nothing in common with the settlement described here except the name. According to the Mashbock evaluation, the settlement is estimated to have around 500 inhabitants.

The local Māori belong to the Iwi (tribe) of the Ngāpuhi .

economy

Before larger areas of cattle pastures were laid out in Kapiro , the grasses suitable for the iron-rich soils of Northland were determined through test cultivation. In and around the settlement mainly agriculture is practiced.
