biography

Karen Young grew up in a row house in Northeast Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . At first she worked as a jingle and background singer for local production companies. In the early 1970s she performed with the group Sandd.

Andy Kahn and Kurt Borusiewicz wrote, arranged and produced the song Hot Shot for Young in 1978 . Executive producer was Walter "Kandor" Kahn. With this single , the singer became an overnight star and reached # 1 on the Billboard Dance Music / Club Play Singles and # 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The disco anthem also made it into the charts in the United Kingdom (34th place) and Germany (42nd place) . In 1990 the song was part of the soundtrack for the film Die Affäre der Sunny von B. (OT: Reversal of Fortune ).

A remix of Hot Shot rose to number 68 in the British singles chart in 1997. You Don't Know What You've Got became the American's only other title in 1983 to reach a chart position in the United Kingdom (number 91). Young had other successes in the US dance charts: Bring on the Boys / Baby You Ain't Nothing Without Me , Deetour and Dynamite took middle places in 1982.

In 1979 Andy Kahn wrote the title Rendezvous with Me for Karen Young. The potential follow-up hit to Hot Shot was not fully produced. It wasn't until 2008 that the recordings reappeared. The MaxRoxx team, DJ Paul Goodyear and DJ Zathan Radix have now mixed new versions with the original soundtracks. The single was released in 2009.

Karen Young died on January 26, 1991 of a bleeding ulcer .
