Gjeitnes has participated in competitions organized by the Fédération Internationale de Ski since 2003 . She has been competing in the cross-country skiing world cup and the Scandinavian Cup since 2005 . She has had eight victories so far and won the overall ranking of the Scandinavian Cup in the 2012/13 season . At the Junior World Championships 2005 in Rovaniemi , she won gold in the sprint. She ran her first World Cup race in March 2005 in Drammen , which she finished with 32nd place in the sprint. In March 2006 she got her first World Cup points in Drammen with 15th place in the sprint. She achieved her first top ten placement in the World Cup in February 2008 in Otepää with ninth place in the sprint. In January 2011 she achieved her first and so far only World Cup podium with third place in the team sprint. She achieved her best individual World Cup result so far in February 2015 in Östersund with fourth place in the sprint. At the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun , she came fifth in the sprint. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season in Lillehammer she finished 23rd in the World Cup mini tour and third in the sprint at the Scandinavian Cup. In March 2017 she was third at Årefjällsloppet .
In the 2017/18 season, Gjeitnes took third place at La Sgambeda and Ylläs-Levi , eighth place in the overall ranking of the Ski Classics . The following season she was second at La Diagonela and fifth in the overall ranking of the Ski Classics . After finishing third at the prologue in Livigno and La Venosta at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, she came second at La Diagonela and Toblach-Cortina . She also won the Marcialonga and at the end of the season finished second in the overall ranking of the Ski Classics.
