Karin Lawall (born July 16, 1949 in Quiigart ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

education and profession

After graduating from secondary school in 1966 at the secondary school for girls in Saarbrücken , Karin Lawall completed an apprenticeship as a financial economist . From 1966 to 1968 she was an employee in the Saarland tax administration, followed by the aforementioned training from 1968 to 1971. From 1971 to 1991 she worked as a tax officer. From 1991 to 1994 she was a member of the state parliament, after which she worked until 1998 as a government employee in the Ministry of Economics and Finance of the Saarland in the department for structural and economic policy.

Political party

In 1970 Karin Lawall became a member of the SPD. From 1991 to 1996 she was chairwoman of the SPD local association Quiigart, and since 1996 she has been the deputy chairwoman of this local association. Since 2002 she has also been deputy chairwoman of the SPD district association Saarbrücken -Land. From 1994 to 2002 she was a member of the state executive committee of the Saar SPD . She has been a member of the SPD party council since 2004 and represents the Saar SPD regional association together with her party colleagues Cornelia Hoffmann-Bethscheider , Michael Burkert and Leo Petry .

Public offices

Karin Lawall has been a member of the Quiigart community council since 1984, and has been chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group in the community council since 1987.

On September 11, 1991, Karin Lawall replaced the resigned MP Margit Conrad in the Saarland state parliament . In the state election on October 16, 1994, she was unable to defend this mandate. In the state elections on September 5, 1999, she again managed to secure a mandate for the Saarland state parliament. She defended this mandate at number 1 on the SPD list for the Saarbrücken constituency in the state elections on September 5, 2004. In addition, she is a member of the national parliamentary council of the greater SaarLorLux region . Since September 2004 she has also been Vice-President of the Saarland State Parliament, before that she was already the Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee.

She ran on January 30, 2000 as a candidate of the SPD for the election of the mayor of the municipality of Quiigart, but with only 43.7% of the votes she could not beat her competitor, Otwin Zimmer from the CDU , with 56.3% of the votes accounted for, prevail. On June 24, 2007 she ran again for the office of Quierschieder mayor, after the original SPD candidate, Gerhard Quednau, had resigned. With 51.1% of the votes, she was able to prevail this time against Otwin Zimmer and was then mayor of the Quiigart community from February 1, 2008 to January 31, 2016. Carmen Lallemand-Sauder replaced Lawall, who then had to surrender her seat in the state parliament.

Others

Karin Lawall is a member of the supervisory board of the development company Gemeinde Quiigart GmbH. It is a member of around 20 clubs and associations, including the ver.di union , the Arbeiterwohlfahrt and the Saar Animal Welfare Association .

Karin Lawall has a son and lives in Quiigart.
