Karl-Dieter Bodack (* 1938 in Stuttgart ) is a German engineer and designer as well as a university professor. He became known for the design of the trains in the interregional system introduced by the Deutsche Bundesbahn in 1988 .

Career

Bodack studied mechanical engineering and business administration and then worked as a development engineer, including at Touristik Union International (TUI).

From 1970 to 1995 he held management positions at the Bundesbahn and Deutsche Bahn AG .

He was one of the founders of the planning company for innovative vehicle equipment (PFA), which converted older express train wagons into interregional wagons with a new interior design. Bodack also designed the interior of the TUI-FerienExpress touring coaches . Around 1992 he worked for the Design Center of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. In the same year he was head of department at the Federal Railway Central Office in Munich. He designed the Interregio-Bistro as a further development of his work in the TUI-FerienExpress according to the principles of organic architecture . He often quotes Rudolf Steiner on architecture and organization , supported by market research and target group analysis .

Since leaving the Bahn, he has been a consultant for the social development of initiatives and companies and founded an interdisciplinary design course at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences . There he held a professorship in the Integrated Product Design course .

In March 2012 he ran unsuccessfully for a board seat at the Pro Bahn passenger association , but was elected to the Pro Bahn arbitration board.

Bodack is a vehement critic of the corporate strategy of Deutsche Bahn AG. Above all, he criticizes the gradual abolition of the InterRegio without replacement . He quotes the Wirtschaftswoche from May 27, 2004, article "Flying pigs": DB had " eliminated the most popular product, the 'bread and butter business', comparable to the Golf class of car manufacturers" For this reason, the IPO of Deutsche Bahn AG is an illusion. Bodack describes this as "socially and socially good" because otherwise, after being sold to investors, they "burden both employees and passengers with their demands for returns ... and ... could extort ever higher subsidies from the governments ."

He is a co-founder of the Bürgerbahn instead of Börsenbahn alliance and is involved in Bahn für Alle . He was a member of the arbitration for Stuttgart 21 and published several critical articles on Stuttgart 21 .
