Karl-Heinz Göttert (born February 25, 1943 in Koblenz ) is a German Germanist and professor emeritus for German studies at the University of Cologne .

Live and act

Göttert studied history and German at the University of Cologne and completed his studies with the first state examination and subsequent doctorate . Since 1970 he has been an academic councilor and senior councilor. In 1985 he completed his habilitation and from 1990 to 2009 was an adjunct professor for older German literature at the University of Cologne. He is now retired, but continues to teach at the universities in Prague, Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Shanghai (honorary professor there).

His research areas include medieval literature, rhetoric , cultural history and the history of language. In his book German. Biography of a Language (2010), Göttert downplayed the danger that Anglicization poses to Germans too much, criticized Hans-Martin Gauger . With his book Mythos Redemacht he was on the shortlist for the 2015 Leipzig Book Fair in the non-fiction / essay category .

Göttert has also written several historical detective novels as well as books on organs . He is married and has two daughters.
