Karl-Heinz Gerschmann (born November 20, 1924 , † April 27, 2010 in Münster ) was a German classical philologist and historian of philosophy .

After studying classical philology and philosophy , Gerschmann worked as an editor at the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt am Main, among others . During this time he published two small papyrological works, one at the suggestion of Hans Georg Gundel on a papyrus from the Giessen papyrus collection. He was also involved in the only German complete translation of the Jewish philosopher Philon of Alexandria , last edited by Willy Theiler . When Hans Blumenberg was appointed to Bochum in 1965 and then to Münster in 1970 , he followed suit. In Münster he was appointed academic councilor , later senior councilor at the Philosophical Seminar. On this occasion, Gerschmann underwent a doctoral procedure, which he completed in 1974 with a dissertation prepared by Horst-Dieter Blume on the ancient novel of the Chariton by Aphrodisias . Gerschmann worked on Blumenberg in particular on ancient literature and philosophy and published his own writings on the history of philosophy in the Renaissance and early modern times , including the letters of the dark men , Thomas More , Francesco Patrizi da Cherso , Johannes Pfefferkorn , Niccolò Machiavelli and Johannes Hofer .
