Karl-Heinz Kretschmer (born September 22, 1948 in Plessa ) is a German engineer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending the extended secondary school, Kretschmer completed an apprenticeship at VEB Bagger-, Conveyor Bridge and Equipment Construction (BFG) in Lauchhammer . He then began studying at the engineering school in Görlitz and received partial qualifications in commercial law and as an assembly manager in steel construction. In addition, he attended the Bauhochschule in Leipzig . He carried out his professional activity in the lightweight metal construction combine in Ruhland . There he worked initially as a rationalization engineer, then as deputy production director and later as production manager. In addition to his work as an engineer, he completed 4-week courses as a reservist with the NVA . Today (2008) he is head of the Cottbus branch of the Brandenburg State Office for Real Estate and Construction.

Karl-Heinz Kretschmer is married and has three children.

Kretschmer joined the Eastern CDU in 1975 . From 1981 to 1986 he was a board member of the CDU district association Senftenberg , from 1986 to 1990, as the successor to the late Karl Dölling, chairman of the CDU district association Cottbus and from 1987 to 1990 a member of the main board of the Christian Democrats. From May to October 1990 he was the head of the district administrative authority (government representative) in the Cottbus district . Kretschmer was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament from 1990 to 1994 and a member of the committee for economics, medium-sized companies and technology there from 1992 to 1994. In 1990/91 he was Vice-President of the State Parliament. In parliament he represented the constituency of Cottbus I.
