Karl-Heinz Reuber (born February 15, 1906 in Bergneustadt ; † May 24, 1982 in Wesel ) was a German local politician .

Career

In 1933 Reuber became treasurer of the city of Papenburg in Emsland . He held this office until he became a participant in the Second World War . As such, he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was released in April 1949. After the post of city ​​director in Wesel on the Lower Rhine became vacant at the end of 1949 , he was able to prevail from among 95 applicants and was elected by the city council for twelve years. His office, through which he was head of administration, he took up on April 1, 1950. One of his main tasks was to rebuild the city, which had been badly damaged as a result of the war.

During his tenure, which lasted from 1950 to 1970, Reuber was regarded as hardworking, assertive and competent in the acquisition of funds. In addition to the reconstruction, he promoted the local economy and managed to attract companies such as DELOG , Siemens , BYK and Philips . With the jobs created as a result, a significant increase in population began. Important construction projects during his tenure included the municipal stage and a road bridge on Bundesstrasse 58 over the railway systems running through the city. He also sought a partnership with an American city, which could be completed in 1952 with Hagerstown in the state of Maryland. Later he also became chairman of a citizens' association for the maintenance of the town twinning.

On November 25, 1970, he retired with the end of his tenure as city manager. After he had already been awarded the ring of honor by the city of Wesel on July 1, 1970, he was made an honorary citizen of the city on December 17, 1976. A street in the Wesel Hanseviertel was named after Reuber, who died in 1982 .
