Karl-Heinz Tietz (born December 9, 1919 in Nowawes ( Babelsberg ); † February 7, 2014 in Lehnin ) was a German football player who played in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football, from 1949 to 1956 .

Athletic career

At the age of nine, Karl-Heinz Tietz joined the workers' sports club Concordia 06 Nowawes in his home town . After the workers' sports club was banned by the National Socialists in 1933, VfL Eintracht 06 Babelsberg was founded. At VfL, Karl-Heinz Tietz made his debut in the first men's team on August 29, 1937 and rose to the district class at 06 at the end of the season. The Second World War interrupted Tietz's sporting career, and he did not return from an American captivity until 1947.

In the meantime, all sports clubs in the Soviet occupation zone had been banned, including VfL Eintracht. From 1946 so-called sports communities (SG) were founded, which were allowed to host state championships in football from 1947. Tietz had joined the SG Babelsberg, with which he became Brandenburg runner- up in 1948 and champion in 1949. As runners-up and champions, the Babelsbergers were also involved in the Eastern Zone Championships in 1948 and 1949 , but never got beyond the first game.

In the 1949/50 season, the football league founded by the East German Sports Committee (DS League for short) started as the highest football class in the Eastern Zone. Among the 14 qualified teams were the Babelsbergers, who now competed as Brandenburg champions as the Märkische Volksstimme company sports association . The now 29-year-old Karl-Heinz Tietz was part of the team again. In his first league season he was a regular in his team with 23 out of 26 league games and six goals. He was able to maintain this status in the following seven seasons, in which he was called up 192 times in 195 played point games in the league known as the GDR Oberliga from 1950. With a total of 215 league games, he was behind Johannes Schöne (227) the busiest player in the Babelsberg team, who renamed themselves BSG Rotation in 1950 . In his eight seasons Tietz was one of the goalscorers every time and in the end he scored 28 goals. For several seasons he also exercised the function of team captain. Although he completed his last league season in 1960 (calendar year rhythm of play) at the age of 40, he was used again in all 26 league games and came again to two goals. In his long league career he mainly played in midfield, but was occasionally used in attack. In addition to his point games, Tietz was also used in ten games of the Brandenburg state selection until 1952.

After Tietz's long playing career, he started a career as a coach in 1961. Among other things, Tietz coached the second-rate GDR league club SC Potsdam in the 1961/62 season and the Motor Babelsberg team, which also played in the GDR league, from 1971 to 1974 . Before that, he had already looked after the Babelsberg offspring.
