Karl-Heinz Volkmann-Schluck

Karl-Heinz Volkmann-Schluck (born November 15, 1914 in Essen , †  October 25, 1981 in Cologne ) was a German philosopher .

biography

After graduating from high school in Moers in 1934 , he studied philosophy and classical philology in Frankfurt am Main with Hans Lipps . In 1938 he followed Hans-Georg Gadamer to the University of Leipzig , where he became his assistant after completing his dissertation in 1939. In 1940 he passed the state examination in ancient Greek and Latin . Due to a war mission, he officially submitted his dissertation on the interpretation of the ontology of Plato to Plotinus at the University of Leipzig in 1942 . In autumn 1944 he completed his habilitation on " Nicolaus Cusanus and the Understanding of the Incomprehensible" in Leipzig, where he was appointed private lecturer in 1945. In 1948 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Rostock . In 1949 a full professorship followed at the University of Cologne , where he taught until the end of his life in October 1981.

Scientific work

Volkmann-Schluck was mainly influenced by phenomenology and hermeneutics , mainly by his academic teacher Hans-Georg Gadamer . He mainly researched on ontology and the history of metaphysics , especially its beginnings with the Greeks. This was followed by research on Friedrich Nietzsche , aesthetics and poetry theory, as well as art philosophy.
