Karl-Rudolf Hornberger (born July 27, 1931 in Bad Kreuznach ) alias "de Hombes" is a photographer and dialect poet from the Nahe valley on the northern edge of the North Palatinate highlands. He is a representative of the large number of native and dialect poets from the Palatinate .

Live and act

Karl-Rudolf Hornberger comes from a middle-class background. His father Karl Hornberger was a German record holder and German long jump champion in his youth . He later worked as a bailiff and local sports official . Both parents came from established Kreuznach families. The city is the center of life for Hornberger throughout his life. After school he began an apprenticeship in 1946 at the Kreissparkasse Bad Kreuznach, today Sparkasse Rhein-Nahe , and from 1948 worked as a banker at this institute. He learned photography early on as an autodidact and since 1960 has worked part-time as a freelance photo journalist for the local newspapers "Oeffentlicher Anzeiger ”and “ Allgemeine Zeitung ” . He specialized in sports and landscape photography in the region. As part of his professional activity in the advertising department of the Sparkasse, he took part in photo exhibitions at home and abroad. From 1974 to 1990 he designed the picture part of the annual reports of the Sparkasse and from 1981 to 2000 the home calendar of the institute. A number of thematic photo books from the region such as “The Lost Moment”, “Wine Flowers - Flora in Wingert” and “Castles and Palaces on the Rhine and Nahe” were created at the Sparkasse publishing house.

Since the beginning of the nineties his glosses in dialect about life and experiences in his hometown have appeared regularly in local newspapers under the title “Em Hombes in die Fiiß gelaaf” . After his retirement he started publishing his works in 1994. The short episodes, written in dialect, are characterized by their humor and close observation. He is also the author of the dialect play "Vum Bankert zum Banker", which Ulrike Neradt translated into Rheingauer Platt and was performed several times by the Rheingau dialect group "Die Schlappmäulcher".

Hornberger is widowed and lives in Bad Kreuznach.
