Palatinate dialect poet
The Palatinate dialect poets , of whom there is a list of names , deal with the Palatinate dialects in literary categories such as poetry , prose or drama and thus effect the documentation, maintenance and further development of the dialect and its individual idioms . They do this in the entire area in which the Palatinate dialect is at home, i.e. beyond the political borders of the Palatinate also in the Rhine-Franconian part of the Saarland , in the Palatinate- speaking south of Rheinhessen and Hesse and in the Baden part of the historic Electoral Palatinate .
Dialect poet
The Palatinate dialect, like other dialects, lives primarily from the spoken word. Written dialect that would be classified as fiction does exist, but it is relatively rare and does not follow any fixed rules of orthography. This is why Palatinate dialect poets do not often appear as writers , with exceptions such as Paul Tremmel . In addition, in the absence of specialized publishers, dialect books are often self-published. For these reasons, the importance of the Palatinate dialect poets mostly results from their successes achieved through oral presentations at the major dialect competitions .
Dialect competitions and successful participants
Four Palatine dialect competitions take place regularly and each have up to 200 applicants: the Palatinate dialect poet contest (since 1953) in Bockenheim , the dialect contest Dannstadter Höhe (since 1988) in Dannstadt , the dialect poet contest Gonbach (since 1984) in the eponymous municipality and the Sickinger dialect poet contest (since 1991), which the community of Wallhalben advertises and which is held in the community of Herschberg, which is part of the association. In these competitions, independent jurors evaluate the dialect works presented and award prizes .
So far, no participant has been able to take first place at least once in all four competitions. Only four participants - Helga Schneider, Albert H. Keil , Heinrich Kraus and Hanns Stark - have already been successful at three of the four venues. Most first places - 14 - were won by Helga Schneider by 2013. With some poets it is noticeable that their successes are (almost) exclusively concentrated on a certain competition.
The following table lists those people who have achieved a total of at least three 1st places. This circumstance and the small number of people - not even two dozen since 1953 - speak for the importance of the listed ones in the field of Palatinate dialect poetry.

Groupings and forums
Regional associations such as the Literaturwerk Rhineland-Palatinate-Saar (primarily oriented towards High German, formerly the " Support Group of German Writers in Rhineland-Palatinate"), the Literary Association of the Palatinate (High German and Palatinate), the Support Group Mundarttage Bockenheim (Palatinate) or the Bosener Group ( Rhine Franconian / Moselle Franconian ) act as an exchange forum and interest group. The Bockenheimer Dialect Days , which have taken place annually in May since the 1970s, gained importance through public events at which dialectologists gave lectures on dialectives and discussed them on the podium ; the panel discussions became known under the name “Pälzer Dischbediere” (Palatinate disputes) .
