Weyprecht medal

The Weyprecht Medal is awarded by the German Society for Polar Research at irregular intervals for outstanding scientific achievements in the polar regions .

The award is named after Carl Weyprecht, who, together with Julius Payer, led the Austro-Hungarian North Pole Expedition, which among other things led to the discovery of the Franz Josef Land .
