Karl Abenthum

Karl Abenthum (born March 8, 1901 in Schwanthalerhöhe , Munich ; † December 27, 1976 there ) was a German Catholic pastor and papal house prelate .

Life

Abenthum was born the illegitimate son of Karl Liedl, a musician and casual worker, and Franziska Abenthum, a worker and cook. He grew up with his grandparents in Mühldorf, later Uffing am Staffelsee . First he attended elementary school in Eglfing and Farchant . After he was shot down, he attended a mission seminar in Schweiklberg between 1914 and 1920 . He then continued his education at the Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium Burghausen . In 1923 he graduated from high school there.

After graduating from high school, Abenthum began studying theology at the Philosophical-Theological University of Freising , which he later continued until 1927 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Michael von Faulhaber ordained him a priest on June 29, 1928 .

Abenthum initially worked as a chaplain in the St. Franziskus Church in Munich's Giesing district . In 1933 he passed the parish bankruptcy examination and was appointed parish vicar from May 1, 1935. On November 1, 1935, he was appointed a cooperator at the Munich Cathedral Parish. In 1937 he became the second cathedral preacher and in 1939 first cathedral preacher at the Frauenkirche . On September 4, 1942 he was appointed cathedral parish administrator. In 1946 he was appointed pastor of the cathedral and on March 24, 1946, with effect from July 1, 1946 as Canonicus Coadjutor. On March 16, 1948 he was elected cathedral chapter . On the occasion of the completion of the cathedral on September 18, 1957, Pope Pius XII appointed him. to the papal house prelate.

On June 23, 1962 Abenthum was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit by the Bavarian Prime Minister Hans Ehard .
