Karl Abraham Dodel (* before October 24, 1710 in Memmingen ; † December 16, 1770 in Geislautern ) was a German builder and architect .

Life

Karl Abraham Dodel was born as the son of the Memmingen carpenter Jakob Dodel and trained as a bricklayer, initially probably in Usingen im Taunus . From 1735 Dodel was a foreman in Saarbrücken. There he was mainly employed as a site manager for projects by the architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel . He married there in 1740 and again after the death of his first wife in 1765. His first building as a master builder in Nassau-Saarbrücken was the Protestant parish church in Dudweiler based on plans by Jost Bager , which was consecrated in 1738. It is believed that Dodel was also involved in the plans. From 1743 to 1750 he was the building director of the Saarbrücken Castle . He designed the tower hood there according to his own plans. From 1748 to 1750 he was responsible for the construction management of the Saarbrücken town hall . Other buildings he was involved in are located in Saarbrücker Schlossstrasse and in St. Arnual . The Catholic parish church in Eiweiler probably also came from him.

From 1753 he was director of the construction of the Jägersberg Palace in Neunkirchen (Saar) . In 1754, Dodel prepared expert opinions, cost estimates and, in 1755, recommended floor plans and plans for the main facade for the Alexander Church in Zweibrücken . In 1762 he drew designs for the Catholic Church in Bliesransbach . From 1762 Dodel worked as a master builder on the construction of the Ludwig Church in Saarbrücken.
