Karl Albert of Lespilliez

Karl Albert von Lespilliez (* May 1723 in Nymphenburg ; † February 10, 1796 in Munich ) was the court architect ("master mason") in the Electorate of Bavaria .

Life and meaning

Karl Albert Lespilliez was the son of Maria Antonia de Condé and Albertus Renatus Lespilliez, castle caretaker in Nymphenburg, electoral councilor, later treasurer. The Lespilliez family had come to Munich from France with Maximilian II Emanuel .

Lespilliez studied with François de Cuvilliés . 1754–1755 he accompanied him to Paris for study purposes, and from 1756–1757 he continued his studies in Italy.

One of the court builders since 1753, he became court chief builder in 1763 and in 1768 with the death of Cuvilliés first chief builder.

In 1766, Lespilliez also gave rise to the establishment of a Real Drawing School in Munich, the "Lespilliez Drawing School" for parlors and carpenters, which existed until 1808.

In 1762 Maximilian III. According to his plans, Joseph convert the fish house in the Munich court garden into a silk filatorium (textile factory). Later, in 1780, the Elector Karl Theodor still built the Electoral Gallery at the Hofgarten. Lespilliez also designed the Munich Palais Gise from 1760 and the Schaezlerpalais in Augsburg from 1765 . From 1774 the building for the garrison hospital was built in Munich .
