Karl Alfred Blüher

Karl Alfred Blüher (born June 24, 1927 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German Romance studies and literary scholar .

He has been married to the French university lecturer and poetry translator Eliane Blüher born in 1950 . Ailloud and has two daughters, the film scholar Dominique Blüher and the economist Anne-Françoise Blüher.

Academic career

After studying Romance , German , Slavic , Classical Philology and Philosophy in Leipzig , Aix-en-Provence and Freiburg im Breisgau , he received his doctorate in 1959 from Hugo Friedrich with a dissertation on Paul Valéry's "Mon Faust" and received his habilitation in 1967 in Freiburg of the German Research Foundation with a paper about the Seneca reception in Spain. From 1970 until his retirement in 1992 he was a full professor and director of the Romance Department at Kiel University .

Blüher is head of the Paul Valéry Research and Documentation Center at the University of Kiel and has been publishing the international journal "Forschungen zu Paul Valéry / Recherches valéryennes" there since 1988 with Jürgen Schmidt-Radefeldt (Rostock).

His research interests lie in the areas of French and Spanish literary studies. He dedicated over fifty publications to Paul Valéry and edited his poetry, dialogues and plays for Insel Verlag . He has also published a large number of works on Antonin Artaud and the Nouveau Théâtre , Eugène Ionesco and Samuel Beckett , on Alain Robbe-Grillet and the Nouveau Roman , as well as on novels and poetry. His research on the Spanish Siglo de Oro , the reception of Seneca, neo-Gothicism and moral studies , especially Baltasar Gracián and Francisco de Quevedo , has received international attention.
