Karl Allaut (* 1951 in Borghorst , today in Steinfurt , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German guitarist . He became known as the accompanist for Udo Lindenberg .

Life

Allaut's father died when Allaut was seven years old. He heard the Shadows for the first time at the age of nine and became interested in music. At the age of 14 he began to teach himself to play the guitar as an autodidact . As a schoolboy he founded his first band, which mainly played the music of the Shadows and the Beatles . When Allaut was 17 years old, he traveled on his own through various major European cities. After his return he began studying music at the University of Münster , which he broke off.

Together with the bassist Steffi Stephan and the drummer Peter Backhausen he founded a band in Münster. Stephan, who previously played with Udo Lindenberg , arranged for Allaut to play the electric guitar on Lindenberg's single Tief im Süd. A little later, Allaut was included in Lindenberg's backing band, the so-called "Panikorchester", in which he appeared under the name of Karl Brutal . Under this name, Allaut played the electric guitar on Lindenberg's album Alles Klar on the Andrea Doria in 1973 , which was his commercial breakthrough. During the recording of the album, Allaut decided to leave the panic orchestra due to musical and financial differences. He founded the band Kater Karlo and the West Wind , with whom he released some unsuccessful singles. In the early 1980s, Allaut worked occasionally with Udo Lindenberg again, especially on his album Odyssey (1983). In 1986, Beatles intimate partner Klaus Voormann introduced him to the singer Stephan Remmler , who was just starting a solo career. Allaut played a variety of hits with him, including No Stars in Athens and Everything Has an End, Only Sausage Has Two . At the end of the 1980s Allaut played again regularly with Udo Lindenberg and a little later with Achim Reichel .

After health problems in the mid-1990s, Allaut withdrew from popular music and has only played jazz ever since .

Allaut lives in the Hamburg district of Eimsbüttel .
