Karl Bacher (born February 10, 1884 in Waltrowitz , South Moravia , † July 8, 1954 in Steyr ) was an old Austrian dialect poet .

Life

Karl Bacher was born in Waltrowitz (South Moravia) as the child of a small farmer. He studied Latin, Greek and German at the University of Vienna and then worked as a secondary school teacher in Znojmo . In 1930 he stayed frequently in Zellerndorf in Lower Austria , where a circle around Josef Pazelt performed his dialect pieces. In 1931 he was co-editor of "Poetry in Lower Austrian Dialect".

At the end of the Second World War , Karl Bacher and his family stayed in Steyr. After the Second World War, his property, like the entire property of the German residents of Waltrowitz, was confiscated according to the Beneš decree 108 . The German residents were then expelled . Karl Bacher stayed in Steyr until his death.

Karl Bacher deals in his works with nature, the country and Lower Austrian / South Moravian customs , characteristic of this: "Dos Liad vo der Thaya", an incomplete epic in hexameters that was published posthumously in 1974.

His deeply felt love for his mother and his native country is "embodied" in all of his poems. For example: "Dahoam hearth fire" (1952), and in its many advertisements in the "South Moravian Yearbook" and "South Moravian"

There is a memorial for Karl Bacher in Zellerndorf.
