Karl Barich

Karl Barich (born October 20, 1901 in Dortmund ; † March 25, 1995 ) was a German manager .

Life

Karl Barich grew up in Dortmund-Kirchderne as a farmer 's son in a strictly Protestant family. The family had a total of six children. First he decided to pursue the career path of teaching and in 1922 passed the teacher examination. During his studies in 1923 he became a member of the Hansea Mannheim fraternity . However, due to the lack of recruitment as a young teacher, he switched saddles and then studied business administration. He was married to Ilse Böckelmann. After the NSDAP and its allies came to power - according to his own account - Barich did not join the NSDAP, but did join the General SS around 1935 , the NSFK (1941 ff.), NSLB (1933 ff.) And later the NSBDT (1941 ff.). He had been a member of the Association for Germanness Abroad, which was also oriented towards National Socialism, from 1937/38. He was awarded the War Merit Cross, Second Class.

From 1941 Barich worked as an authorized signatory and from 1945 as sole director of Geisweider Eisenwerke AG (today Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Specialty Steel ). He was appointed by the occupying powers as a "steel trustee" and was responsible for the formation of Stahlwerke Südwestfalen AG with its administrative headquarters in Geisweid . In 1948 he was elected general director and in 1953 first chairman of the Iron and Steel Industry Association.

From 1954 to 1970 he headed the former Stahlwerke Südwestfalen AG as its chairman .

honors and awards

The honorary doctorate Dr. hc from the Mannheim Business School was awarded to him in 1957.

In 1970 he received honorary citizenship of the former town of Hüttental . He was also awarded the ring of honor.

In recognition of his special achievements, he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1966 and the Great Cross of Merit with Star of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1978.

Today a street in the Geisweid district of Siegen is named after him.
