Karl Baron (born April 21, 1962 ) is an Austrian politician of the HC Strache team - Alliance for Austria , (formerly FPÖ ) and a transport company as well as a former racing car driver . Since November 2010 he has been a member of the Vienna City Council and State Parliament .

There he is president, member of the board of the regional group Vienna and division spokesman for transport and traffic. In local politics, he was active as a district councilor for the FPÖ Donaustadt from 1989, and he also temporarily served as the club chairman of the FPÖ district councils Vienna-Donaustadt. Between June 27, 1999 and November 26, 2010 he was deputy district chairman in Vienna-Donaustadt before he was sworn in as a member of the Vienna City Council and member of the Vienna State Parliament on November 25, 2010 and switched to state politics.

Baron is considered a supporter of Heinz-Christian Strache , who had to resign from his office in the wake of the Ibiza affair and subsequent allegations of incorrect expense reports. After speculation that Baron Strache could enable a return to politics by running for the Chamber of Commerce elections, he was voted out of office as President of the Freedom Economy in Vienna in December 2019 . In the course of the following internal party conflicts, Baron and two other mandataries ( Klaus Handler and Dietrich Kops ) resigned from the Vienna FPÖ state parliament club and founded an independent club under the name Die Allianz für Österreich .

Motorsport

Baron was also active in motorsport. He started in 1987 in the European Touring Car Championship and the World Touring Car Championship. In 1988 he drove in the German Touring Car Championship . In 1998 he competed in the FIA ​​GT Championship in the GT2 class. In 2002 he drove in the Euro GT Series and finished 14th in class C. In 2003 he stayed true to this series and finished 6th in the NGT class. In 2005 he drove in the Italian (34th place) and the European (12th place) Ferrari Challenge. In 2007 he finished 19th in the Italian Ferrari Challenge.
