Life

Karl Broermann was the son of a carpenter . After he had passed his exams as a primary school teacher in 1898 , he first taught at a Catholic primary school in Schlebusch from 1899 and then found a job at the Second Catholic School in Broich near Mülheim an der Ruhr (1900-1907). He later led the teachers' seminars in Kempen and Brühl , and from 1910 he was rector of a school in Oberhausen . Broer man took as a soldier in the First World War in part. Then he worked as a teacher again. On his initiative, a middle school was founded in Oberhausen in 1921 , of which Broermann was the rector. During the Third Reich , Broermann was a supporter of the National Socialist regime. After he left school in 1944 for health reasons, he spent the last years of his life in Heinsberg near Kirchhundem .

In addition to his work as a teacher, Karl Broermann also wrote stories and poems , some of them in Mülheim dialect . His own works and those edited by him after 1933 are strongly influenced by his National Socialist sentiments. He wrote, for example, ideological and propagandistic youth publications with the titles "Albert Leo Schlageter, a German hero" and "From Adolf Hitler's speeches. Edited for the youth ”. During his stay in Heinsberg, as chairman of the decisive denazification committee in the Olpe district, he was responsible for relieving the burden on the writer Josefa Berens-Totenohl, who had previously been assessed by the local committee as no longer acceptable . Karl Broermann was one of the co-founders of the Mülheim History Association in 1906 . The middle school he ran was called "Karl-Broermann-Realschule" from 1948 to 1994 until it was renamed "Anne Frank Realschule".
