Karl Christoph Thiele

Karl Christoph Thiele (born June 26, 1715 in Markersbach near Pirna , † March 7, 1796 in Meißen ) was a German porcelain painter , engraver and etcher .

Life

Karl Christoph Thiele was born the son of a porcelain painter on June 26, 1715 in Markersbach near Pirna. In his early years he developed his interest in painting and received some kind of basic training on his father's side. He learned the craft of engraving from the engraver Christian Gottlieb Werner .

He created numerous copper- engraved views (prospectuses) of the Elbe landscapes from Wittenberg to Königstein as well as city views of the area from Meißen to Dresden . To this end, he wrote verses and short stories that were published locally. A few copies of his writings have been preserved in the Dresden State Art Collections .

He made his own engravings with his own copperplate printing press in order to finance his living. From 1740 he worked as a painter for figure and landscape painting at the Meissen porcelain factory . His son Carl Gottlieb (1741–1811) later also worked at the Meissen porcelain factory as a flower and plant painter.
