Karl Daniel Friedrich Bach
Karl Daniel Friedrich Bach (mostly Carl Daniel Friedrich Bach , nickname Carl Bach ; * May 1756 in Potsdam , † April 8, 1829 in Breslau ) was a German painter, draftsman and art teacher.
Life
Karl Daniel Friedrich Bach was the child of a Jewish merchant family. He became a student of the architect and copper engraver Andreas Ludwig Krüger in Potsdam, then of Blaise Nicolas Le Sueur in Berlin. With Johann Christoph Frisch , Daniel Chodowiecki and Daniel Berger he was a member of the "Society for Nude Drawing".
In 1780 Count Joseph Maximilian Ossolinski brought him to Warsaw , where he created several portraits. In 1784 he accompanied Count Jan Potocki on his trip to the Netherlands, France and Italy. During this period he became a member of the Düsseldorf Art Academy on December 15, 1785 . From 1786 he spent three years in Italy. On December 9, 1788 he became a member of the Florentine Academy of Art . In 1789 he returned to Berlin.
In 1791 Bach was appointed professor for painting and drawing at the newly founded Breslau Art School and its director. In 1793, Bach became the artistic curator of the Proskau faience factory . There he introduced neoclassical decorative motifs and had vessels made based on ancient models.
On July 23, 1794, he became a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin.
At the end of his life he converted to Protestant Christianity and called himself Carl David Friedrich Bach.
