Karl Eduard Schnitzler

Karl Eduard Schnitzler (born October 15, 1792 in Gräfrath (today Solingen ), † February 6, 1864 in Cologne ) was a German banker and founder of the Cologne banking dynasty of the same name .

As the son of Philipp Jakob Schnitzler and Wilhelmina Eickhorn , he was baptized on October 21, 1792 in the Protestant church in Gräfrath. On October 15, 1821, he married Wilhelmine Stein (* March 7, 1800 in Cologne; † December 25, 1865 ibid), the daughter of Johann Heinrich Stein , founder of the JH Stein bank , and Katharina Maria Peill. His son Eduard Schnitzler (1823-1900) was also a banker and corporate heritage, son of Robert Schnitzler (1825-1897) was a Prussian Councilor and Oberrechnungsrat. His daughter Emilie (1822–1877) was married to Wolfgang Müller von Königswinter .

Schnitzler was a secret commercial councilor . He was a member of the Cologne municipal council for more than a quarter of a century, from March 1826 to October 1851, as an “active, experienced, insightful member”, as he was witnessed when he voluntarily resigned.

He was buried in the family grave at the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (HWG, between lit. D + E).

The GDR journalist Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler (1918–2001) was a great-grandson .
