Karl Ernst von Waldstein (born May 13, 1661 in Dobrovice ; † January 7, 1713 ) was a Habsburg-Austrian diplomat .

Life

Karl Ernst von Waldstein was treasurer of Emperor Leopold I and in 1685 of Emperor Joseph I at the Hungarian coronation. In 1689 he became real councilor and ambassador extraordinary next to the Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial . In 1693 he became ambassador extraordinary in Savoy and in 1695 in Brandenburg.

In 1696, Philipp Ludwig Wenzel von Sinzendorf married Countess Rosina Katharina von Waldstein. In 1697 Karl Ernst von Waldstein was admitted to the Privy Council and in 1698 to the Order of the Golden Fleece . He became extraordinary imperial ambassador to the French court of Versailles Palace . In 1700 he was transferred to the Portuguese court in Lisbon and on May 15, 1703 concluded the alliance with Portugal, England and Holland against France in the War of the Spanish Succession .

He was ambassador in Lisbon from August 1700 to May 17, 1703 . He negotiated the marriage contract between the Crown Prince of Portugal and an Archduchess. To return he embarked on a Dutch ship. The ship was to prize regulations applied and captured by Waldstein by French troops. Waldstein was imprisoned in Vincennes for 10 months . In 1704 he became a colonel court marshal.

On October 20, 1708, Karl Ernst von Waldstein became Colonel Hofmeister to Wilhelmine Amalie von Braunschweig-Lüneburg . In 1709 he became a Colonel Chamberlain and Conference Councilor. He was married to Maria Theresa, a daughter of Franz Adam von Losenstein.
