Karl Ewald Anton Hermann Bartsch (born September 14, 1813 in Glogau , † January 22, 1887 in Lauban ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently commander of the fortress artillery regiment No. 3.

His parents were the court surgeon in Glogau Joseph Bartsch and his wife Therese Herzog .

Life

He received his education at the grammar school in Neisse. After graduating, he joined the 6th Artillery Brigade as a gunner on November 3, 1831, and was appointed portepeef ensign on September 22, 1835. From October 1, 1835 to September 30, 1837 he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . During this time he was aggregated on November 2, 1836 as a second lieutenant .

After his return he was appointed artillery officer on December 30, 1837 and assigned to the regiment. There he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on October 10, 1848, and to captain on July 22, 1852. On December 14, 1854, he was placed in the fireworks department and was assigned to the 6th Artillery Regiment à la suite . He received the service cross on June 30, 1857 and was transferred to the 6th Artillery Regiment as battery chief on September 18, 1858. On June 17, 1862 he became a member of the Artillery Examination Commission and on June 17, 1862 also a member of the Examination Commission for Premier Lieutenants of the Artillery, to which he was placed à la suite of the 6th Artillery Regiment. He was promoted to major on March 17, 1863, and on October 13, 1863, he moved from the square to Kolberg fortress as an artillery officer . On July 7, 1864, he was transferred to the 8th Artillery Brigade while retaining his position. On October 11, 1865 he became director of the fireworks laboratory and commander of the fireworks department, and he was placed à la suite of the brigade.

On December 31, 1866 he was appointed lieutenant colonel with a patent on October 30, 1866. As such, on February 7, 1868, he was entrusted with command of the fortress artillery regiment No. 3 and was placed à la suite of the regiment; on October 27, 1868, he was confirmed as commander. On June 18, 1869 he was promoted to colonel. During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War he became commander of the artillery war crew of Mainz on August 5, 1870. But on September 15, 1870 he came to Toul as commander of the siege artillery , for which he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class . After his success there, on December 11, 1870, he was appointed head of the artillery of the Meuse Army off Paris. For the siege of Paris he received the Iron Cross 1st class . On May 23, 1871 he returned to his peacetime position as a commander in the fortress artillery regiment No. 3.
