Karl Ewald Boehm

Karl Ewald Böhm (born March 5, 1913 in Nuremberg , † May 16, 1977 in Berlin ) was a German writer and head of the main administration for publishing at the Ministry of Culture , the censorship authority of the GDR .

Life

Böhm was active in the Communist Youth Association of Germany from 1930 . From 1932 to 1933 he studied economics and newspaper science at the Nuremberg Commercial College . From 1933 he worked illegally for the KPD , was arrested and sentenced in 1934 to two years in prison by the Nuremberg Higher Regional Court for “preparing for high treason ”. He was imprisoned in Nuremberg until 1935, then in Dachau concentration camp until 1939 . Until 1942 he worked as a commercial employee at Photo Porst (he was a cousin of Hannsheinz Porst ) and was then a soldier in the Wehrmacht until 1945 .

In 1946 he moved to the Soviet occupation zone , joined the SED and was co-founder and director of the Thuringian People's Publishing House in Sonneberg . After attending the party college , he was editor or deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine " Neuer Weg " and deputy head of the associated department at the SED Central Committee . Until his dismissal in 1958, he was head of the main publishing administration at the Ministry of Culture, after which he lived as a freelance writer. From 1962 he was chairman of the Frankfurt (Oder) district association of the German Association of Writers . Böhm was co-author of the youth consecration book Weltall Erde Mensch .

Böhm was awarded the National Prize of the GDR III in 1960 . Class for Science and Technology and in 1973 awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold.
