Karl Franz Sebastian Fahrländer

Karl Franz Sebastian Fahrländer (born February 29, 1836 in Aarau ; † April 23, 1907 there ; entitled to live in Oeschgen ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and public prosecutor . From 1873 to 1875 he was a member of the National Council , from 1885 to 1907 a member of the government of the Canton of Aargau .

biography

The son of National Councilor Karl Emanuel Fahrländer and grandson of the Fricktal governor Sebastian Fahrländer graduated from the municipal and district school and the cantonal school there . He then studied law at the universities of Zurich , Heidelberg and Berlin . He did his doctorate in Heidelberg and was admitted to the bar in Aargau in 1860. From 1861 to 1865 he was employed as a clerk at the criminal court in Aarau, then for seven years as the deputy public prosecutor until he finally worked as a public prosecutor himself from 1872 to 1885. In the military he had the rank of colonel .

Fahrländer's political career began in 1873 when he was elected to the National Council , to which he only belonged until 1875. In 1884/85 he was Vice President of the Constitutional Council, which drafted a new cantonal constitution; he chaired the fourth sub-commission responsible for the areas of organization, civil rights and justice. Shortly after he was elected to the Grand Council in 1885 , this delegated him to the cantonal government.

As a member of the government, Fahrländer initially headed the Department of Education until 1893, then the Department of the Interior until 1901 and finally the Department of Justice until 1906. His achievements include, in particular, a first draft of the municipal organization law and an amendment to the penal code. He reorganized the cantonal teachers' seminar, set up a trade school and was responsible for the expansion of the Königsfelden institution and the Aarau cantonal hospital . From 1876 to 1881 he presided over the Christian Catholic parish of Aarau, from 1883 to 1899 he was a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Northeast Railway .
