Karl Franzewitsch Albrecht

Karl Franzewitsch Albrecht (Russian Карл Францевич Альбрехт) (born August 27, 1807 in Posen ; † February 24, 1863 in Gatchina (Russian Га́тчина), 45 km from Saint Petersburg ) was a German-Russian composer .

Albrecht studied with Joseph Schnabel in Breslau and then worked as a violinist in the Breslau theater from 1825. In 1835, after working as a répétiteur in the choir of the Düsseldorf theater, he became the independent conductor of an opera company in Düsseldorf . In 1838 he was appointed conductor of the opera and the Philharmonic concerts in St. Petersburg. From 1850 he was a singing teacher at the orphanage in Gatchina.

His son Konstantin Karlowitsch Albrecht (1836–1893) was a cellist and composer in Moscow.

A mass , a ballet and three string quartets by Albrecht have come down to us. Other works are considered lost.
