Karl Friedrich Vitzthum von Eckstädt
Karl Friedrich Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt (born January 13, 1819 in Dresden , † October 16, 1895 ibid) was a royal Saxon and later Austrian diplomat .
Life
origin
Karl Friedrich was the eldest son of Karl Count Vitzthum von Eckstädt (1767–1834) and his second wife Elisabeth, born Freiin von Friesen (1793–1878) from the house of Rötha. His father was a lord of Oberlichtenau , a royal Saxon chamberlain , a real secret councilor and head stable master .
Career
He studied law and in 1845 became legation secretary at the Saxon legation in Berlin , 1847 in Vienna , and in 1852 Saxon chargé d' affaires in Saint Petersburg . From 1853 he lived in London as Saxon Minister-Resident at the British Court, then as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary . When Friedrich Ferdinand von Beust , whose policy Vitzthum von Eckstädt advocated everywhere, became Austrian Minister, he too entered the Austrian service and was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Belgian court. When the war broke out in 1870 , he was entrusted with important diplomatic missions to Paris, London and Florence . He then withdrew into private life and died in Dresden.
family
Vitzthum married on August 7, 1875 in Paris with Leonie, widowed Countess von Brzezie-Lanckorońska , née Countess Potocka (1821-1893). The marriage remained childless.
