Karl Friedrich Watson
Karl Friedrich Watson (also Carl Friedrich Watson, Latvian Kārlis Frīdrihs Vatsons , born June 7, 1777 in Mitau , † March 4, 1826 in Lesten / Kurland ) was a Baltic German pastor in Lesten.
Watson was the son of the Koenigsberg pedagogue Matthias Friedrich Watson and the Baltic German Agathe Dullo. He devoted himself to researching the history, language and culture of the Latvian people. He was a member of the Kurland Society for Literature and Art and in 1819 opposed the Germanization of Latvians. From 1822 to 1826 he was editor of the first Latvian weekly newspaper , the Latweeschu Awises .
