Karl Gerhard Bornmann (born December 3, 1946 in Seligenstadt ) is a German police chief commissioner a. D.

Life

Bornmann studied from 1971 to 1974 at the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences and obtained an engineering degree in physical technology and physical chemistry. In 1975 he attended the Federal Police Academy in Lübeck, where he graduated with a diploma as an administrative manager and a qualification for the senior police service and in 1976 the Technical School of the Federal Police at the Federal Police Academy, where he graduated as head of weapons and police technology.

From 1976 to 1991 he worked for the Federal Police as a police chief for tactical and technical units. In 1992 he worked at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva. Until 1994 Bornmann was a consultant for security against land mines and the related problems as well as the monitoring of UN programs in unrest and post-war areas. In 1995 he worked at the Foreign Office in Bonn as a special advisor for safety in aid projects against landmines. In doing so, he developed program proposals, planning and introducing German contributions to international programs for the elimination of the landmine threat. From 1995 to 1996 Bornmann worked in the UN Department of Humanitarian Affairs in New York as a security advisor in connection with projects against landmines. He was involved in the development, testing and introduction of measures and tools to increase safety and reduce risk in the affected countries.

From 1996 to 2000 he was head and managing director of the Sankt Barbara Germany Foundation and was responsible for numerous humanitarian aid projects.

From 2000 to 2006 he worked for the Federal Police as a technical department head and as head of the units for special police tasks. During his tenure, Bornmann was a unit leader of a tactical counter-terrorism unit and a specialist in special police forces such as weapons, explosives, protective equipment and special devices and equipment. At the international level he has planned, prepared and initiated humanitarian missions on behalf of the United Nations. The main areas of use were Mozambique , Angola , Somalia , Guatemala , Bosnia and Sri Lanka . For many other countries he prepared hazard analyzes and reports to improve safety.

Awards

In 1977, Karl Gerhard Bornmann received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class, for his special services in the effort to free the hostages in the Lufthansa machine Landshut in Mogadishu .
