Karl Glaser (politician)

Karl Glaser (born September 7, 1921 in Salzburg ; † September 13, 2006 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) as well as a post and telecommunications officer. Glaser was a member of the Salzburg state parliament from 1949 to 1955 and then from 1955 to 1982 a member of the Austrian National Council .

Life

After elementary school, Glaser attended the Bundesrealgymnasium Salzburg from 1931 and passed the Matura in 1939. He was imprisoned in 1938 and 1940 for political imprisonment and studied for three semesters at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences between 1939 and 1940 . Between 1941 and 1945 he did his military service during the Second World War. After the end of the war, Glaser joined the post and telegraph administration and worked as a post and telecommunications officer. He was also active as the regional representative of the union of post and telegraph employees in Salzburg. In 1982 he left the post office and was president of the Salzburg Civil Defense Association from 1982 to 1988.

Glaser was councilor of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees in Salzburg and represented the ÖVP in the Salzburg state parliament between 1949 and 1955. In addition, he was active within the party between 1950 and 1961 as district party leader of the ÖVP Salzburg-Stadt and from 1964 to 1976 he was the regional party leader of the ÖVP Salzburg. Before that, he had already been deputy state party chairman from 1951 and from 1961 executive state party chairman. In addition, he was regional chairman of the ÖAAB Salzburg from 1953 to 1978 and from 1961 to 1964 deputy chairman of the Salzburg regional executive of the ÖGB. Glaser was a member of the National Council from January 20, 1955 to March 30, 1982.

Since 1955 Glaser was an honorary member of the Catholic middle school association K.ö.St.V. Almgau Salzburg in the MKV .
