Karl Gottlob Francke

Karl Gottlob Francke (also Carl ; born May 10, 1807 in Leipzig ; † December 22, 1861 there ) was a German surgeon and university professor .

Life

Francke began studying medicine at the University of Leipzig in 1826 . After completing his studies in 1831, he went to Warsaw as a doctor for the Polish army . There he remained for some time as a doctor at the Warsaw hospitals. On his return he was at Leipzig University with the thesis Historia femoris exarticulati to Dr. med. PhD . In the following years he ran a surgical practice in Leipzig, which is said to have had a good reputation.

Francke also taught from 1840 to 1847 as a lecturer in surgery at the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig. In 1847 he was promoted to associate professor for surgery. After Ernst August Carus left , in 1845 he became head of the University Surgical Clinic in Leipzig alongside Johann Karl Wilhelm Walther .

Francke worked mainly as a general practitioner in surgical practice and as an academic teacher and therefore only published articles in specialist journals.
