Athletic career

Clara Koppenburg started cycling relatively late, at the age of 17. Her father, who was the doctor of a professional cycling team, took her to a world championship, where she discovered the sport for herself. As a student, Koppenburg competed in athletics at TuS Lörrach-Stetten and also successfully participated in running competitions. In 2013 she passed her A-levels at the Hebel-Gymnasium in Lörrach .

After a year in the U23 team at RSV Seerose Friedrichshafen 2014, Clara Koppenburg has been racing in the women's elite since 2015. A year later she was able to finish third in the Tour of Bern , where her captain Ashleigh Moolman won.

In 2017 she finished fourth in the U23 individual time trial at the European Road Championships . A few weeks later she won the bronze medal with her Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team in the team time trial of the 2017 World Championships and established herself as a noble helper.

At the UEC European Road Championships in Glasgow in 2018, she helped her German teammate Lisa Brennauer to a podium place. In the road race of the 2018 World Championships , Koppenburg was active on a steep climb and finally came in 18th. The four-day Emakumeen Euskal Bira stage race in the Basque Country from May 19 to 22, 2018, Clara Koppenburg finished 9th in the final classification, and did important helper services for Ashleigh Moolman, who finished 6th in the stage race. Koppenburg was able to complete the third stage of the Emakumeen Bira at the same time as the winner Amy Pieters .

In the 2019 season, after an attack on the steep Xorret de Catí with the third stage of the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, she won her first international bike race and then the overall ranking of the tour . In 2020 she returned to Team Bigla, where she took on the role of captain. In her first race of the season in February 2020 she was able to finish the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana in second place overall. After the break from racing due to the COVID-19 pandemic , she finished 6th in the Spanish one-day race Emakumeen Nafarroako Klasikoa and 4th in Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria at the end of July. Due to a fall-related injury during training the day before, she was unable to take part in the sixth edition of the Strade Bianche as planned .
