Karl Gustav Jung
Karl Gustav Jung (born September 7, 1795 in Mannheim , † June 12, 1864 in Basel ) was a German - Swiss physician.
Life
Karl Gustav Jung, son of a doctor, studied medicine in 1816 in Heidelberg to the Dr. med. PhD . He joined the Teutonia fraternity in 1815 and took part in the Wartburg Festival in 1817 . Jung received further training in surgery and ophthalmology in Berlin . After being exposed to political reprisals there, he stayed in Paris from 1821 and emigrated to Basel in 1822. There he was initially a full professor of surgery, anatomy and the art of delivery and from 1855 to 1864 of internal medicine at the University of Basel . In 1824 he founded the university's anatomical collection . In the same year he was naturalized in Basel.
From 1850 to 1856 he was the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge Alpina .
In 1876 Ferdinand Schlöth commissioned a monument bust by Karl Gustav Jung for the auditorium of the museum on Augustinergasse , which has been in the Basel sculpture hall since 2008 .
Karl Gustav Jung was the father of the architect Ernst Georg Jung and the grandfather of the psychiatrist C. G. Jung .
