Huldrych M. Koelbing

Huldrych Martin F. Koelbing (born June 17, 1923 in Reiden ; † May 8, 2007 in Zurich ; resident in Basel and Schinznach-Dorf ) was a Swiss ophthalmologist and medical historian .

Life

The son of the Reformed pastor von Reiden graduated from high school in Basel and studied medicine at the University of Basel . He received his doctorate in 1950, graduated as a specialist in ophthalmology in 1955 and opened his own practice in the same year. From 1964 Koelbing worked as an editor for Documenta Geigy . In 1965 he received his habilitation for the history of medicine at the University of Basel. In 1971, Koelbing, succeeding Erwin Heinz Ackerknecht , became full professor for the history of medicine at the University of Zurich and director of the Institute of Medical History. In 1988 he retired; Beat Rüttimann was the successor to the chair .

Koelbing was editor-in-chief of the Gesnerus magazine from 1989 to 1992 . He was a founding and honorary member of the Julius Hirschberg Society . His estate is in the Archive for Medical History at the University of Zurich .
