Research priorities

Specht's scientific approach was characterized by the theoretical analysis of sociological facts and their integration into empirical research against the background of a human-scientific perspective: The needy person in particular also needs scientific expertise.

gerontology

Together with the owner of the First Department of Aging Medicine in Germany, René Schubert set up at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Klinikum Nuremberg , and later president of the World Association of Gerontology, the Bonn psychologist Hans Thomae , Karl Gustav counts Specht, so Ursula Lehr , one of the founders of interdisciplinary gerontology in Germany . As early as the 1970s, Specht had initiated studies of the sociology of aging among his group of students and employees , which had anticipated the currently discussed problems and challenges of demographic change.

Medical sociology

He is also counted among the pioneers of medical sociology in Germany. Specht had also promoted an interdisciplinary approach here, as was cultivated years later in public health . A large number of projects on rehabilitation research at the Institute for Empirical Sociology and at the Institute for Liberal Professions, which still shape the scientific profile of the institutes today, went back to Specht .

Corporate governance and consumer research

Other focal points of Specht were next to the empirical research , the Industrial Sociology with the company management and consumer research. Here Specht cultivated interdisciplinary contacts with business administration .
