Günter Büschges

Günter Büschges (born September 4, 1926 in Hüttental-Weidenau , today Siegen , † June 22, 2017 in Nuremberg ) was a German sociologist .

Life

Büschges studied economics and business administration as well as social sciences at the University of Cologne after completing his business assistant examination and graduated with a degree in business administration . In 1961 he was in Cologne with René King with the work "area selection as a selection method in empirical social research" to Dr. rer. pole. PhD. From 1952 to 1968 he worked as a company sociologist in industry and most recently in a managerial position in the central personnel and social policy department of a large West German silk weaving mill.

From 1968 to 1970 he was Academic Councilor at the Chair of Sociology at the University of Regensburg , then from 1970 to 1975 Scientific Councilor and professor for the practice-oriented subject "Organization and Human Resources" at Bielefeld University . In 1975 he was offered the professorship for empirical social research at the University of Essen - comprehensive university . In 1980 he switched to the professorship for empirical social sciences at the Fernuniversität Hagen and initiated the introduction of the subject of sociology in what was then the department of education and social sciences. He was also director of the Central Institute for Distance Learning Research at the FU Hagen. In 1982 he took over the professor for sociology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and became director of the institute for liberal professions at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg. In 1994 he retired . From 1994 to 2001 he was emeritus director of the Institute for Empirical Sociology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

The main focus was on the methods of empirical social research and on the interface between sociology and economics, in particular general sociology, social science methodology, professional sociology , organizational sociology , economic sociology and medical sociology as well as traffic safety . Among other things, he published on the rehabilitation of sick employees and problems of road safety.

Büschges was editor of the book series "Contributions to Social Research" and author of the textbooks "Introduction to Organizational Sociology" and "Basics of Sociology".
