Political career

Hagemann joined the CDU in 1978 and was a member of the CDU local group Hagenow. For the first free Volkskammer elections on March 18, 1990, he ran in the Schwerin constituency in 5th place on the list. As the CDU won six seats in this constituency, Hagemann moved into the last GDR parliament as a member of the CDU. During the last meeting of the People's Chamber on September 28, 1990, the GDR parliament decided to send observers to the European Parliament as representatives of the new federal states to be formed from among the members of parliament as part of an agreement on German unity . The German Bundestag adopted this resolution largely unchanged on February 21, 1991. Since Karl Hagemann had been nominated as a group of observers by the CDU parliamentary group, Hagemann sat until the end of the 3rd legislative period in 1994 as an observer of the EPP-CD parliamentary group in the European Parliament. Nothing is known about Hagemann's further political career.
