Ottmar von Herman
Ottmar Freiherr von Herman (born July 28, 1835 in Tübingen , † November 15, 1902 in Vienna ) was an Austro-Hungarian colonel .

Ottmar von Herman came from the family of Barons von Herman, who were wealthy in Memmingen and Wain . His great uncle Benedict von Herman had been raised to the imperial aristocracy as a rich merchant and had the Hermansbau in Memmingen and the Wain Castle built. He left his estate to his three cousins, with Ottmar's father being the main beneficiary. Ottmar was a son of the stable master Johann Theobald von Herman (born November 20, 1783 in Memmingen, † March 15, 1845 in Tübingen), who lived in Memmingen, and his wife Magdalena, born von Grimmel (born October 3, 1806 in Memmingen, † 4 February 1866 in Memmingen).
Military career
Herman emigrated from southern Germany to Austria in 1853 and joined the Imperial and Royal Army on June 11, 1853 as a regimental cadet of Emperor Franz Joseph Ulanen Regiment No. 4. On February 7, 1854 he was promoted to second class lieutenant and on July 1, 1854 to first class lieutenant. On September 20, 1857, he was promoted to first lieutenant. On March 1, 1860, he was transferred to the Uhlan Regiment No. 11 and on November 1, 1863 to the No. 2 Cuirassier Regiment. On January 22, 1864 he was promoted to Rittmeister 2nd class and on June 24, 1866 to Rittmeister 1 . Class. As a first lieutenant, Freiherr von Hermann took part in the battle of Solferino in the field camp in 1859 and as a cavalry officer in the battle of Königgrätz in the 1866 campaign. On November 1, 1871, he moved to the Dragoon Regiment No. 3 and on January 1, 1875 to the Reich Ministry of War. On July 1, 1876, he was transferred to the Dragoon Regiment No. 2 and promoted there to major on November 1, 1876. In 1878 Hermann was awarded the Royal Prussian Red Eagle Order, 3rd class. On November 1, 1878 he was appointed lieutenant colonel and on November 1, 1882 he was transferred to the k. and k. Bukowinasche Dragoon Regiment with simultaneous promotion to colonel. From August 1, 1887, Herman was on leave with a waiting fee and retired on April 1, 1890 with the reservation for so-called local services.

On December 23, 1872 he married Auguste, Edle von Nordberg (born December 29, 1840 in Mainz , † September 15, 1898 in Traunstein ). The couple had a son: Ottmar Richard Maria Freiherr von Hermann (born December 16, 1878 in Neusiedel auf der Heide, today Uihei, Timiș District, Banat, Romania), a doctor of law and later Austro-Hungarian court adjunct in Graz (1910 ).
