Karl Heinz Wagner (linguist)

Karl Heinz Wagner (born March 21, 1938 ) is a German linguist and editor .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1959, Wagner studied English , Romance studies , philosophy and education in Erlangen and Edinburgh (state examination in 1964) and became a research assistant at the English seminar at Kiel University . In 1968 he received his doctorate in English, Romance studies and general linguistics and, after a short time, became a research assistant at the Institute for Linguistics in Stuttgart . In 1971 he was appointed to the professorship for linguistics with a focus on English at the University of Bremen . He is retired.

Wagner was an early representative of generative grammar in Germany. Later he mainly taught computational linguistics . He publishes the series “Bremer Linguistic Colloquium” (BLIcK).
